Lightning Protection System Design

A Certified Master Installer/Designer will work with you to design the lightning protection system that meets your specific needs.

  • Intercept the lightning flash
  • Conduct the lightning current to earth
  • Dissipate current into the earth
  • Create an equipotential bond
  • Protect incoming services
Lightning Protection System Installation

There are five elements that need to be in place to provide an effective lightning protection system.

  • Air terminals (lightning rods)
  • Conductors (special braided metal conductors)
  • Bonding connections to metallic bodies within the structure
  • Ground terminations
  • Surge Protection Devices
Lightning Protection System Inspection

The initial inspection can be inspected by a third party such as UL or LPI but follow up inspections can be performed by your LPI Certified Master Installer/Designer.

  • Visual Inspection should be conducted annually
  • No loose connections
  • No corrosion or vibration
  • Conductors and electrodes are intact
  • Conductors and system components securely connected to the mounting surface
  • No damage to surge suppression devices
  • Keep data records of inspections noting condition of air terminals, conductors and other components
